2024 Photo Contest
January 1 - January 20, 2024
Competition classes:
1. Dahlia Portrait - features a single dahlia bloom as the focal point, in the garden or any setting. Entire bloom must be contained in the photo, petals outside the frame will detract.
2. Multiple Blooms - features more than one variety or more than one bloom of a variety.
3. Dahlia Gardens - features views of places where dahlias are grown.
4. Seedlings and new intros - features a single bloom as the focal point, in the garden or any setting, of an unnamed seedling or a 2024 introduction.
5. Macro view - features an up close image of part of a dahlia bloom.
6. Bouquets and Arrangements - features cut dahlias in vases, containers, or artistic design.
Contest rules:
1. Entry is open to any Portland Dahlia Society member with dues paid through 2024.
2. AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHERS only, all images must have been taken by submitter.
3. Photos must have been taken in the 2023 growing season.
4. Images previously submitted to the monthly PDS Bulletin photo contest may not be entered in this competition.
5. Dahlias should predominate in each photo.
6. Photos can be taken in any setting, no requirement for taking them in your own garden.
7. Maximum of three entries may be submitted per category.
8. No photo may be entered in more than one category.
9. Please identify the name of the varieties whenever possible.
10. Entries may be submitted in any digital format. Do not put your name on the photos.
11. Images submitted will be included in contest videos to be shared with the public.
12. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY MIDNIGHT on SATURDAY, JANUARY 20.
Submission of photos to the contest constitutes acceptance of these rules.
WHEN SUBMITTING ENTRIES, PLEASE NOTE YOUR CITY AND STATE OF RESIDENCE.
Two winners in each category will each receive a $10 cash award. Grand Prize winner (Best in Show) will receive an additional $25 and a rosette.
